Deidre Ricketts

Deidre Ricketts is 31 years old, a wife of 13 years to an amazing man, a homeschooling mom of 3 beautiful kids ages 9-12, and an animal foster. Deidre’s life was turned upside down in October 2024 when she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. It is Stage 4, but Deidre remains strong.

Deidre has been through a lot – 9 rounds of chemo (currently on round 10), multiple surgeries, hospitalizations, treatments, endless appointments, and long drives to her oncologist over two hours away. All of which has been exhausting, frustrating, and expensive. But Deidre maintains hope.

She finds joy in reading, volunteering, cooking and baking for her family and others, kickboxing and pilates, and enjoying hockey with her family. She hopes to be in remission soon, because keeping the faith and hope keeps her alive. She is thankful for all the support her family has been given, and she loves her community.

The Award of Courage is given each year to someone who, like Helen Keller, exemplifies bravery in the face of adversity. We are in awe of the courage Deidre exhibits, and we believe she is a perfect recipient for this year’s award.
