Also running is an exhibit entitled In the Water: Musical Heritage of the Shoals (June 16 – August 1). In the Water: The Musical Heritage of the Shoals offers visitors a glimpse into the rich musical heritage here the Shoals told through objects drawn from private collections of many of the people and families who were in the room when the magic of the ‘Muscle Shoals Sound’ was happening. The exhibit is co-curated by Michael Wright and draws upon his intimate knowledge and connections to help shape the story of not just FAME and Muscle Shoals Sound Studio but saturates down to the people, places and stories that made that unique sound that shaped the music of a generation in the United States and beyond. It’s that musical magic that seems to have uniquely emerged here that makes people answer the question of “Why here?” with “It’s just in the water.
